Perry Browne Intermediate School
has an approximate enrollment of 455 students. We are committed
to academic excellence and provide a well developed curriculum
aligned with New York State Standards for students in grades
3 through 5. We offer traditional, looping and departmentalized
instructional settings in classrooms. Students in traditional
classrooms receive the majority of their classroom instruction
from one teacher for the school year whereas students in
looping classrooms receive the majority of their instruction
from the same teacher for two consecutive years. In departmentalized
classrooms, students receive their instruction from teams
of two or more teachers. We provide speech and language services,
counseling, occupational and physical therapy, academic intervention
services and special education support. Our students receive
instruction in art, music, library, computer literacy and
physical education. We also offer chorus, band, orchestra,
intramurals and art enrichment.
Our faculty and staff understand the significant impact
we have on the lives of our students. We strive to provide
a safe, nurturing, learning environment in which every child
can demonstrate and build upon their strengths while simultaneously
receiving support for their needs. Our solid partnerships
with parents, caregivers and the community allow our students
to continue to develop the skills and knowledge required
to be successful 21st century learners and leaders. Volunteering
is an excellent way for you to be an active participant in
the education of our children.
Student progress reports are our standardized formal communication
advising parents and caregivers of student’s strengths
and areas in need of further development. Each student receives
four report cards and four interim reports during the school
year. A total of eight written reports are sent home to parents
and caregivers during the ten months of school. In addition,
faculty members schedule meetings with parents and caregivers
at a minimum of twice during the school year. These conferences
are held during the tenth and thirtieth weeks of school.
Additional conferences can be scheduled as needed to enhance
the learning of all stakeholders in our student’s education.
Perry Browne – a great place to teach, learn, lead
and leave a legacy.
A message from Jennifer J. Post...
Our faculty and staff members at Perry Browne Intermediate School strive to make this a wonderful and strong educational setting for every student. We promote leadership at our school … inspiring our children to be leaders.
The learning and understanding of the following character education information builds upon our leadership theme. Our goal is to develop this positive thought process and turn it into action. We ask for our families and community members to please join us in this venture.
- For the month of October we learned about…be proactive. This means, “I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.”
- For the month of November we learned about…begin with the end in mind. This means, “ I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision and look for ways to be a good citizen.”
- For the month of December we learned about…put first things first. This means, “I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.”
- For the month of January we learned about…think win-win. This means, “I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ emotional bank accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.”
- For the month of February we learned about…seek first to understand, then to be understood. This means, “I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.
- For the month of March we learned about…synergize. This means, “I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone. I am humble.”
- For the month of April we will be learning about…sharpen the saw. This means, “I take care of my body by eating right, exercising and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I take time to find meaningful ways to help others.”
For the remainder of the school year we will constantly review all of these leadership habits of highly effective people.
