PRIDE IN OURSELVES
Approximately 500 students in grades 6-8 attend Norwich
Middle School. There are roughly 56 teachers and
several support staff that work with the students on a
daily basis. Each grade is divided into two teams,
which allows teachers to personally get to know each student.
The 6th grade students meet daily with their team of teachers,
while the 7 & 8 grade students meet on an every other
day basis for 82-minutes. In addition to the required
core classes, students also take health, LOTE, home and
career skills, technology, computer applications, art and
music.
The middle school also has a variety of extra curricular
activities for students in all grades to take part in after
school: jazz band, student council, art club, MS
Musical, Olympics of the Mind, Drug Quiz and the Spelling
Bee.
Norwich Middle School offers remediation in math, reading,
and written expression for students who need extra support
during the school day.
Advanced classes are also offered at the middle school
with some classes resulting in high school credit.
Advanced classes:
- Fast paced math- 6th grade
- Advanced Math- 7th grade
- Algebra- 8th grade
- Honors English- 8th grade

Dear Parents and Guardians June
2008
What a positive and productive school year it has been! It’s
hard to believe June is here and eighth grade students will
head to the high school, seventh grade students will move
to the eighth grade and fifth and sixth grade students will
leave Perry Browne and enter the middle school in the fall.
I am very proud of the accomplishments of the middle school
students. There were more students than ever on the
honor roll, and many students participated in extracurricular
activities. All students have worked very hard and
it shows in the test results!
The final days of school for students are June 23-June 26,
mornings only. Eighth grade students will take the
Language Proficiency test on the 23rd. Students taking
the exam will get off the bus at the High School and wait
in the cafeteria. Those students who wish to leave
right after finishing the proficiency must have written parental
permission prior to taking the exam. Without written
permission, students will be required to stay until the half
day dismissal time. Please make arrangements ahead
of time.
Summer school will be held at Walton/Greene. There
will be transportation provided. If your child needs
to attend summer school, please sign him/her up by June 28th. More
information can be attained by calling Student Services.
Thanks to all parents who have been patient and cooperative
as we have been under major construction. More information
will be sent home as the construction progresses.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my third year as the middle school
principal and look forward to another wonderful school year
beginning in September. Have a safe and relaxing summer!

Norwich Middle School Principal
*******************************
Summer is almost here. We wanted to let you know
that our construction project is moving along as planned. There
have been no interruptions with our school days at Norwich
Middle School.
Over summer break, the contractors will be back for an asbestos
removal project. The school will be completely shut
down while this occurs. Signs will be posted on all
of our exterior doors on Wednesday to describe the project
The area for this work will be barricaded and covered with
plastic. This is a routine process and air samples
will be taken to ensure our safety.
Our building will be closed right after students are released
from school June 30.
